Changes, Upgrades and Other Good Stuff!

Phew! It’s been a big month for CAS Netlink and there’s still plenty of work to do.

On March 31, Ross hung up the CAS phone for the last time. After 14 years or so as our first point of contact for support and master of accounts he’s decided to give his ear and his fingers some time off! I know you will all join me in wishing him well and hoping that he takes a well deserved break.

I’ll be taking over the reigns and will be the new voice that you will be hearing on the phone. Some of you know me but I know that many don’t, so let me introduce myself. My name is Gary and I’m the techy geek guy who spawned ‘Cyberlink Access Systems’ (our original name) some time in the mid 90’s. I’ve had a passion for everything computing since 1980, so CAS Netlink has been like my second child since we started sending our first bits over the Internet pipes way back when I was still able to wear shorts and feel comfortable about it!

Whilst I wasn’t born in Ballarat, we moved here when I was about 18 months old, so I’m ‘darn nearly Ballarat born and bred’.

Anyways, enough about me. Let’s get on with the changes and upgrades.

Dialup Service

Our first change was the end of our dialup service. It’s what we did originally so it was certainly sad to have to shut it down but as broadband  became more popular the number of people using the dialup service reduced to the point where it was starting to cost us to keep the service going. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank our loyal dialup customers, some who had been on our dialup service almost since day 1.

Server Updates

With the closing of the dialup service I’ve decided to make better use of our hardware and servers. We have several servers located here in Ballarat, but most of our faster hosting servers are located in a high speed data centre. We will be turning off some of our old admin servers and migrating some of our hosted websites to the data centre servers which will ensure that they continue to be snappy and fast well into the future. The move is done in such a way that there is no downtime and we will let you know when your server has been moved. If you have email mailboxes at your domain then we’ll work with you to ensure that you have uninterrupted email.

Mailbox Changes

We sent an email out in the last week of March to announce the upgrade and movement of our CBL.COM.AU mail service. We’ve worked our way through most of those and just have a handful left to do.

New ADSL Services

We’re currently investigating some new ADSL plans that should lower the cost and provide faster access. Stay tuned for more news on that during the month of April!

New Design

Hopefully you have noticed the snappy new design. We’re actually using the free WordPress blog software with a theme that allows us to present the business on the main page and also keep all our customers updated on the latest news and trivia here in the blog section. If you are interested in getting your first website online, or just feel the need to have a shiny new one, give us a call. Websites like ours can be set up for under $500 and there are literally thousands of professional themes to choose from that can make your business shine online!
