Another Shiba Breeder

DOGZONLINE

Hi. Please let me tell you about our temperament. We have a spirited boldness, a good nature, and an unaffected forthrightness, which together yields dignity, and natural beauty. We have an independent nature, and can be reserved towards strangers , but are loyal, and affectionate to those who earn our respect.

We are also excellent with children, and make very good companions, in the house or in a flat, because we love company, and are very clean inside our home. Our temperament is described as three essentials:

  • KAN-I - (spirited boldness)
  • RYOSEI - (obedience, biddability, and gentleness)
  • SOBOKU - (artlessness)

These three essentials work to form our temperament, and are very important to our breed.

The Shiba Inu IS The oldest of the Japanese Breeds

The Shiba Inu is acknowledged as the oldest dog of the many Japanese breeds, ( including the Akita Inu,) and , Interestingly enough one of my ancestors is likely to be the forefather of the Australian Dingo as well. A quick comparison between a Shiba Inu puppy and a Dingo puppy will soon reveal this strong possibility.

What is certain is that skeletons similar to those of the modern Shiba Inus have been found, along with human remains, in ancient caves in Japan which have been dated as long ago as 3000 B.C. Hence, it seems likely that we have been domesticated for a long time, and this may help explain our breeds marvelous temperament and ease with people.

We almost came close to extinction in Japan during the desperate last days of World War 2, when food became scarce, and all animals were either eaten or starved to death . Fortunately, the Nippon Preservation Society found a few of our breed still in existence in the mountain regions and the Shiba Inu was brought back from the brink of extinction by a careful breeding program.

Today there are more than 80,000 Shiba Inus in Japan and thousands more through out the world as our remarkable breed takes off as an intensely popular option for people who want all the characteristics of a big dog in a compact, medium to small package.

We are pleased to say that we Shiba Inus have been in the land of the Kangaroo, and the Golden Wattle since 1988. These Aussies still have a lot to learn about our lovely breed, but my home (BUSHLAND SHIBA INUS) are "STRIVING FOR EXCELLENCE".

A brief history of the Pug

The Pug is another Asian Breed, of Chinese origin, which dates back to around 400 BC. These dogs were amongst the favoured pets of the Buddhist Monasteries of Tibet. They were also, kept by the Emperors of China. The Pug was held in such high esteem, he even had his own servant to tend his every desire.

The Pug however, was not just a lap dog, there is a story that William Silent, King of Holland, when waging war against the Spanish, was awoken one night by his Pug just in time to avoid two would be assassins. As a result of his heroism, the Pug later became the official dog of the House of Orange, during the 16th century.

The great grand son of William the Silent, William Prince of Orange took some Pugs with him, when he traveled to Torbey in 1688, to ascend the throne of England. All the Pugs were bedecked with orange ribbon around their collars, which denoted the family connection with the House of Orange.

PS -  One of the earliest pure breeds in Australia. It is believed the Pug came with the migrants to Australia in the 1860s. The first record of them being shown was at the Sydney Royal Show in 1870.
